In Selinsgrove two hour parking can last forever and businesses are not happy!
An Orange Street News investigation has revealed that two hour parking regulations are not being enforced on Market Street and some Selinsgrove store owners claim it is hurting business.
Business owners say that they aren’t a fan of more tickets but worry that people are taking advantage by leaving their cars parked in front of stores all day. They claim it is hurting business because when space in front of the store is taken for long periods of time real costumers can’t use the space.
“I’m not a fan or more tickets, that’s not what I’m saying, but something needs to be done to prevent people from parking their cars in front of my business all day and just leaving,” a Selinsgrove business owner who didn’t want to give their name told the Orange Street News.
Section § 133-27 of the Selinsgrove Code Book says that “No person shall park a vehicle or allow the same to remain parked upon any of the highways or parts of highways described below between the hours specified, for longer than the time indicated below.”
“Sometimes they stay all day and nothing happens,” another business owner told the OSN.
The Orange Street News investigated the claims by parking a large car at 27 Market Street where it is two hour parking at 11 am on Monday, May 23rd. When the OSN returned at 6pm there was still no ticket.
The Selinsgrove Police were not available for comment.
Lets leave the cops free to solve crimes- not to be a revenue mechanism. The business itself tho- can get the license plate #, write the days and times down- and then phone the NON-emergency police. I dont think a highly trained police officer should be reduced down to a meter maid.
