Selinsgrove is about to get a whole lot sweeter!

Tudor House Pie’s, which will specialize in homemade delicious deserts, will soon be opening up at 460 Market Street in Selinsgrove.

“The pies have no preservatives. All fresh ingredients. I make ten to twelve different pies,” owner Daniel Ross told the Orange Street News.

Ross says he will mix up the selection, which will include popular pies like shoofly and lemon.

Ross told the OSN he decided to open up his business in Selinsgrove after deciding to sell his house in Augustaville and move to the Grove.

But for Ross, making pies isn’t just a job. It is a passion. And he can’t stand what has happened to his favorite desert.

“The art of pie making has really gone bad over the years,” Ross told the OSN.

A new business is great news for Selinsgrove — which has been struggling to keep shops from closing.

Earlier this year the Hip Hop Hippy and Weaver’s Nest both shop shut down after only being open a few months.

Last March, an Orange Street News investigation revealed that out of the forty-seven store fronts on Market Street between West Pine and University Avenue nearly one fifth are empty or for rent and that number doesn’t include the buildings that are houses or apartments.

Ross told the OSN that the reason business is hurting in Selinsgrove is because college kids aren’t coming to the downtown.

The pie restaurant will open within the next two weeks, according to Ross. Another new business, Color Outside the Lines, will also be opening in February.

“I think people are going to be really happy when they give them a try,” Ross told the OSN.
