A Dog Training service is determined to show that you can teach an old dog new tricks
Top Dog pet training service, which teaches basic obedience and tricks to dogs of all sizes, will be opening a storefront on Market Street in January.
Posner claims that there are no bad dogs.
“I do not think that there are any dogs that are untrainable. I think some dogs may need more time to be trained. Even older dogs can learn new ways, it’s all just a matter of time. I can also say that sometimes it’s in part training the human to learn more about their dog and how to train the dog,” said Posner.
Since last March it has been a service that has group and private 1 on 1 classes. Group classes meet for an hour each week for a set of 5 weeks. Private classes can Meet for an hour just once or in sets of 4 weeks, an hour each week.
“I will also like to have set “walk in” hours so if your home walking your dog on your lunch break or you don’t have much time you can come in and get a 10 – 20 minute session,” owner Krysta Posner told the Orange Street News.
When asked about dogs who are considered mean, like pit bulls, Posner claimed that they are just badly judged.
“I think it’s all stereotyping. A pit bull is not a breed. It is a term used to group dogs with the same characteristics. Also can be categorized as “bully breeds” this includes American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire, boxer, Boston terrier, bull dog, bull terrier, a bullmastif and a few more.. so, I think yes “pits” get a bad stereotype but it can also be how they are raised and trained, for the good or for the bad. You can’t ignore the fact that there are people who use dogs for fighting but that’s a while other topic. Mainly a few years ago it was about German shepherds and Dobermans and now it’s about pit bulls. […] I think that there is a need for positive dog training in the area. And what’s better than being right out in the open in the middle of selinsgrove where people are constantly going by. I wanted to have a space where people could easily reach, knew where it was, and where I could be available to help people with their pets,” Posner told the Orange Street News.
