Poisonous Weird Women

Recently, a video appeared on my timeline of a man talking about women who dye their hair, comparing them to poisonous toads. He stated “That’s why these chicks dye their hair and get all tatted, they’re showing you how poisonous they are, like poisonous frogs in the rain forest they lure with bright colors.” Of course my default reaction as a young girl, who’s no stranger to hair dye was to brush it off as another man who someone let have a microphone voicing some rage inducing opinion that only applies to woman-however the more I thought about it, the more I considered there might be some truth behind it.

Of course, that statement might seem ridiculous, and is more than likely rage bait, but the sentiment behind it is nowhere near new. It made me think about when bangs first became popularized in Ancient Egypt, then again in Spain in the 1600s. They reappeared as a popular hairstyle for both men and women. That was until a clergy stated that women who wear bangs are “on their way to committing a mortal sin.” Because of this, bangs fell out of style for women for the time being, as men continued to wear their bangs without the worry that it’s a sign they’re going to become sinful.

This clip comes from the GG33 podcast featuring Brute De Force and a few other Internet personalities that give life advice. The podcast host replies to the original statement made by Brute De Force about the danger of women with alternative appearances, saying, “Why would they do that?” With his bright silver Mohawk, Brute De Force replies, “because they’re wearing their trauma.” “It’s a cry for help?” “100% it’s a cry for help.”

The irony of this conversation is that the poisonous toads they’re referring to seem to be misunderstood by them. The toads don’t have these bright colors to lure animals to be injured by their poison; they’re meant to scare away predators.

I’ve come to the conclusion that there is truth behind what they’re saying, even if it might not be in the way it’s intended.

Tattooing, for example, has only recently been accepted in western society for women. In the 19th century, women who had tattoos were considered far outside what was considered attractive.

An article from Fox and Moon on the history of women in tattooing reads, “The first instance of tattooed women in Western society were featured in Freak Shows. Generally, tattooing was something women avoided. This was especially true during the early 19th century, when women’s bodies needed to be hidden and under the control of men and where female self-expression was frowned upon. Those women who chose to ignore this were completely expelled and marginalized  from modern society and viewed as freaks.”

Even moving into modern day society, there is still a stigma around tattoos and alternative appearances for women, which goes to show that most girls who choose to get tattoos and dye their hair do it for the simple reason that they like the way it looks. It isn’t completely wrong to try and extract identity from the way someone chooses to present themselves. The reality is, it takes a specific type of person to choose how they want to look based on nothing more than their opinion on it—a person who isn’t subservient to the societal norms around beauty.

It makes sense to me that the men on the GG33 podcast are warning men away from this ‘type’ of woman. A person who isn’t revolving their life around the way people think usually won’t be the type of person to become abject to the expectations of a relationship.

So maybe the bright colors are a warning-not of poison-but of a secure identity.

Hilde, I’m so happy that the women of this generation are fighting toxic masculinity.

There’s a LOT of decent men out here cheering you on.

It’s time for American Demi-Men to GROW THE HELL UP and quit embarrassing the rest of us.

Well written. People need to express themselves whether it’s coloring of the hair or tattoos or both.

I actually believe there is a lot of truth to what the original comment was implying. Now a lot of men and women get tattoos and dye teir hair lighten shade it highlight it etc, but i do find that most of the kids that i grew up with that went to the extreme sides of expressing themselves, like constantly dying their hair bright “loud” colors all the time, rarely had a natural organic type of hair color but one of the colors youd pick out of a 12 pack of crayola markers, the extreme tattooing, big outrageous tattoos that dont just mean something special to them, but are there to make a statement, they dont know what the statement is themselves but they just know that it gets a reaction out of other people, also the same goes with the way people dress, wearing dog collars and all sorts of accoutrement and tons of piercings, all over their body and face ears nose nipples vagina penis balls here there anywhere they can put one, people putting objects under their skin, like horns or pentagrams on their hand that over time start to appear through the skin and grow to be more prominent, its all to me a lesser degree of self mutilation, and unfortunately the majority of people that fall into the descriptions have also fallen into another group of people that i left out until the end. And that would be Drug addicts. Some people, that arent hurting inside will do drugs or occasionally try drugs or heavy narcotics for an adventure or to see what the fuss is all about but they go ack to their normal happy life and dont get sucked into the feeling of being under the influence of said drugs, well, because they are… Happy. it wasn’t a life changing experience for them like it is for someone that is traumatised from a messed up childhood or suffered abused, mental, physical, sexual, or any other forms of abuse during their youth that when they hit puberty started to manifest itself into anxiety, depression, insecurities, socially awkward, not being able to look someone i the eyes when they talk, not being able to feel comfortable around people like they did as a child, feeling PTSD, or anxieties that something bad is always about to happen in general or to them or to the people they love and care about that are around them. Most of the people that dressed up, dyed their hair got piercings anywhere they could got all sorts of tattoos and a;so acted out i certain ways for attention or said things for attention or the general shock value, all those people that took thins to the extremes when it comes to expressing themselves what people think is “comfortably” Ive grow to personally witness in my 43 years that those people had a VERY HIGH percentage of abuse and trauma in their child hood and were acting out, wearing their trauma on the outside like the original person that youve quoted was saying. Its sad, cause ive had EASILY over 25 people and counting, that i grew up with that expressed themselves in such ways, fall into heavy narcotics and die from heroin use and other combinations or cocktails of drug use. And its sad cause as of now, i have an 11 year old son and my first girlfriend that i was with for about 8 years had a little girl with a different man, but i stayed in that little girls life and as I was saying ITS SAD, cause you can see all the kids that would come over and hang with her, during her teens, and tell EACH and EVERY ONE of them that had some issues going on at home, and would be falling into drugs not knowing the paths that they would be leading themselves down to, and sure as shit, as many of the kids that we could all tell had some trouble in their childhood, they all started disappearing from coming over the house one by one, because life wasn’t about skateboarding, hanging out, listening to music, playing the guitar anymore, it was about “so and so discovered Sex, weed, then coke, and Oxys” and then it turned into ” I haven’t seen them in months, years, half a decade, i heard they were into going this place and that place where people go to get coke crack heroin etc”

So, In a way, actually a very STRONG WAY, I wholeheartedly agree with whomever had commented that people do wear their trauma on the outside, and if you can believe that i the way that do, and in the way i’ve taken the time to describe, then its also a warning sign to stay away from that very colorful Toad. Cause although these Toads might not release venom, but they certainly can fuck your life up if you try to invest too much of your time, feelings, and passion hoping you can undo and fix the damage that has been done to these “Toads”
