Is Selinsgrove’s drinking water safe?
The Orange Street News tested Selinsgrove’s tap water to see if it was safe using a water testing kit and here are the results:
Bacteria—negative
Lead and Pesticides—negative
Nitrates- 1.5 ppm—normal
PH-8.5—high end of normal
Chlorine-negative
Water Hardness-Very Hard!
According to the Water Quality Association (WQA), our water which tested at 425 ppm is very hard. The WQA says that hard water is caused by a build up of calcium and magnesium and, while not harmful to drink, can make cleaning tasks like laundry, dish washing, and bathing difficult because soaps and detergents don’t break down as easily.
Luckily, everything came out negative except we have very hard water.

You forgot to test for fluoride. Ideally there should be none. The government drastically reduced the amount that is allowed 2 years ago.

Also- mom said there are 2 resorvors and the water on one side of town is “better”, I never figured out what she meant. By law a water system will put out an annual report- so the notion that Flint did not know is false.
