Selinsgrove author Matthew Lysiak is releasing the first in a new children’s horror series.
The new series, called iShrieks, will combine kids love of scary stories with a growing interest for any device that keeps them plugged into the world of the internet, according to Lysiak.
“Haunted houses and werewolves just aren’t cutting it anymore,” Lysiak told the Orange Street News. “As the world becomes filled with all of these new technologies, research shows that children’s fears and interests have changed, too and iShrieks seeks to redefine the genre for a new generation of horror fans by jumping right into the hyper-connected world of today’s youth audience.”
Tim Jacobus, the legendary illustrator who created the covers for the Goosebumps series, designed the first cover.
New Libri Press, which is based out of Seattle, Washington is publishing the new series.
“Children continue to become increasingly sophisticated in their play and imagination, but that doesn’t mean that that younger children don’t still enjoy a good scare—appropriate to their age. We expect these books to attract the reader who is comfortable with technology, but yearns for surprises,” Publisher Stanislav Fritz said in a statement.
Lysiak (full disclosure: Lysiak is the father of OSN publisher) said he began writing the stories to scare his daughters.
“iShrieks began as a personal challenge to write a middle grade appropriate story that would be scary enough to disturb my tech-savvy children. I’m glad to say mission accomplished,” Lysiak told the OSN.
The first two books in the series will be released in October.
