A fight at a party at Susquehanna University left one man charged with assault and another with injuries on April 9th, according to police.
Police were called to an assault on 8th Street at 12:35 am in Selinsgrove when they saw a man wandering in the middle of the road matching the description of the reported suspect, according to the police report.
Police “slammed on the brakes” to avoid hitting the man, who turned out to be the suspect Alex Miranda, a student from Ridgewood, New Jersey, according to police.
Miranda, 19, had kneed victim Steven Jumper him in the face and punched him in the head causing “swelling” and “lacerations,” after arriving uninvited to a party, according to police.
Jumper told police:
“I was walking into a party. In the back of the party around 12:30am I saw 4 people were walking into a party 3 were invited in one was not. To this individual I said walk around front I don’t know you the assailant proceeded to knee me in my face and punch me in my head his friend broke up the assault. I went into the party and filed a report. He was wearing grey long sleeve shirt black hair and facial hair and was short and stocky,” read the criminal complaint.
Suspect Miranda told a police he lost his temper over a girl.
“He stated he was drunk. He stated he just wanted to go home. He then went on to say he was at a party, then people at the party told him to go outside, then his girl friend was talking to another man and he got mad. This he apologized to the officer that he got into a fight. He stated he was doing it for his girl and to impress someone at the party,” read the criminal complaint.
Miranda was charged with simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct. Jumper’s injures were, swelling, and lacerations.
A hearing will be held June 5 at 10:30am.
