Great journalism and terrific articles! I would love to subscribe to your newspaper but I live too far away to have it delivered daily. However, I am willing to pay extra if you would mail it to me. I am even willing to wait and get one week of newspapers at a time.

Please let me know if this is possible for you to do. I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely,

Like others, I want to get a subscription sent to me though the US Mail. My guess would be that each issue will cost about $1 (I suggest a 6×9″ envelope with a first class stamp.) I would be happy to pay whatever it would cost and please make sure you don’t undercharge to cover all your expenses :

I read a news article about your paper, Orange Street News, and the incredibly stupid responses you received after covering a homicide in your area. I am appalled that anyone would discourage a child at any age, especially one such as yourself, who is clearly exceptionally talented, with such a passion for investigating and reporting current events, news & issues. Your response was very well written, and quite professional. You, and others like you, are America’s future. Please don’t let ignorant remarks, such as those suggesting you confine your activities to dolls and tea parties, get you down or frustrate you. You have a gift, and we are all lucky that you are sharing it, even at 9 years old! I’ll bet there’s a Pulitzer Prize in your future. Congratulations on your success!

Hi Hilde! I work with teens and children. I use your story to inspire them to find their own passion and chase their dreams. You’re a great example of someone who isn’t waiting to grow up before she makes her mark on the world. Many of my patients and students are depressed or suicidal because they feel they have no purpose or direction. You’ve given many of them hope by doing what you do and standing up to those who oppose you or think you’re too young. I love your work and the inspiration it provides to the young people in my life. Keep up the good fight my friend! May God continue to bless you and your wonderful family!

Dear Orange Street News Managing Editor,
It was a pleasant surprise to read of your accomplishments in “The Week” magazine. Now, that I’ve accessed your on-line newspaper, it’s even more interesting to find your remarkable effort.
I’m encouraged to find such journalism effort at such an early point in life but, your printed results bespeak a mature, responsible and thoughtful addition to the media family. You go girl.

I used to travel on I80 from Cleve. to CT every week for 3 years back in the early 2000’s.

Just took a look at the map to see where your city is in PA; my favorite I80 exit even though I never exited was the Lightstreet/Bloomsburg exit.

I always thought that would be a great name for a business.

Anyway, it’s time to switch to a regular website using WP with your own hosting so you have full control.

On .com, you don’t own anything. WP could shut you down anytime they want (probably won’t) but it could happen.

With your own website powered by WP, you will use the host of your choice and control everything.

    You do great work!!

I also forgot to mention by having your own good hosting, you won’t have to worry about YouTube shutting you down either.

Make sure you save you vid files so if somebody complains (a lot of jealous people out there) about your vids and your account gets shut down, you can upload your videos and host them yourself.

You can’t use GoDaddy for $5 per month on a shared server or other similar hosts.

You’ll need something better like WP Engine which is more expensive but again, you’ll control everything with no worry about getting banned.

Hi — love your work and just subscribed. However, I would suggest more skepticism on the “high school drug problem.” Adults have declared terrifying new drug problems in every generation — the 1930s, 1950s, 1970s, 1990s, always. In fact, as your stories show, there seems to be a big drug problem among adults as well. I looked at the statistics on illicit hard-drug deaths by age in Snyder County over the last 5 years. There were 17. Of these, just 1 was under age 25. Most drug deaths — 10 — were in the 25-44 age group, which are the prime ages to be parents, and 6 were age 45 and older. Now, if parents and grownups have an even bigger drug problem, is it any wonder that some students might as well? Why do you think these high school counselors never mention the adult drug problem? Just some questions to ask. Here’s the Centers for Disease Control site to look up drug overdose deaths: https://wonder.cdc.gov/ucd-icd10.html

  49. Hi, Hilde —

I have been a subscriber to the OSN since you were 9 years old, and I’m impressed not only by how you got started in journalism by scooping your local TV station on a story about a murder, but also by your consistently good reporting, your interview of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, your book deal with Scholastic, and your two TV shows in the works. I also like your fiction.

But today I’m writing to you to commend you on your nuanced reporting about the difficult situation at the U.S.’ southern border, in your May 2019 edition of the OSN.

I’m confident that you can become a leading journalist as an adult. You seem to have a natural knack for it.

    Congratulations on your work!

Hi! My name is Érica and I’m from Brazil. I was Reading news when I saw about you in a page of news on my country. The first word when I read this title “girl of nine years old …” was: cute!!! I have to see this little girl! And I saw you and really you cute too much! And I discover you are 13 years old now!
I understand your job is dangerous sometimes because of many things, including your age, but if your parents say you “go, girl”!”…why people care about it? I am too much surprise with your decision since you were since seven years old (according to the news I read). Because I am 36 years old and I don’t know what I like too much to work and be happy with it. Sorry if I write a long text and if there are too much sentences wrong, I don’t know “speak” in short words as I want (in part of it because I am autistic) and I forget words about English because I am worst with idioms.
So… Now I will follow you and your increadible job! You are wonderful and a great girl and your familly should be proud of you as I am too.
    See you, cute girl! 🙂
