The curtain is closing on Selinsgrove’s only theatre.
This Sunday the Courtyard Theater will be preforming its final show, theatre owner Bob Taylor exclusively told the Orange Street News.
The Courtyard, which has run 39 shows since first opening back in April of 2013, just didn’t get the support it needed, according to Taylor.
“Its not just financial. I didn’t get enough help,” Taylor told the OSN. ‘’To keep it open we would have to get some donors or something. Its just to much.’’
Taylor also told the OSN that since so many stores have closed in the Susquehanna Valley Mall, many people didn’t even know his theatre existed.
“Some people who came to the mall regularly would ask, did you just open?” said Taylor.
Taylor’s shows often got rave reviews from critics and theatre goers. Taylor was known for his extravagant set designs, and would sometimes work all night to get everything just right for a show.
But theatre isn’t just a job for Taylor. It is his passion. After making the decision to close, Bob sat by himself in the theatre and couldn’t help but think back to the beginning.
“I just sat there for a while and thought about when I first walked in,’’ Taylor told the OSN.
However, locals do have three more chances to see a show at the Courtyard. Miracle on 34th Street will have three more shows, Friday at 7:00, Saturday at 7:00, and Sunday at 2:00.
Taylor, who is also an experienced actor, says that although the Courtyard is closing, he plans on staying in the business.
‘’I’d die if i didn’t do theater,’’ Taylor told the OSN.
Enjoy it very much.
