A SMOKEY SMELL RATTLES ORANGE STREET

April 5, 2017

By Hilde Kate Lysiak

A smokey smell roaming through Orange Street was the result of a furnace malfunction.

Fire trucks and emergency vehicles lined the 400 block this afternoon after the suspicious smell was first reported. After the Selinsgrove fire department came and investigated they identified the furnace as the culprit.

“I came downstairs and there was a smell of smoke. I looked around and couldn’t find anything so I called the fire department,” Sue Leiby, a resident at 439 Orange Street told the Orange Street News.

The furnace malfunction did not cause any damage, according to fire chief Brandon Ulrich.

“It happens some times,” Ulrich told the OSN.

Lol this isn’t what happened or what my mom said. She never said “I looked around and couldn’t find anything” what she said was ” the house was full of smoke and it smelled like something electrical burning,” is actually what she said. She woke me up from a dead sleep, and I also found the house to be billowing with smoke and had an electrical burning smell to it. The fire police/firman/the police and who ever else were here…. couldn’t find where the fire was coming from nor could they tell us where the smoke was coming from. They blamed the furnace and said the motor must have burned out and that’s what all the smoke was from, obviously not knowing what they were talking about, we had someone look at the furnace an hour later and there was NOTHING wrong with the furnace.
We still have no idea where the smoke was coming from.
We still have no actually answers.
I guess we’re suppose to be ok with that answer.

If you look at the 911 center you will find that DH and L never made it to that call. A chief drove to the scene I believe I heard on the scanner. That truck is from Shamokin Dam.

One of many times you will see a neighboring dept taking care of the Selinsgrove calls.
