OSN EDITORIAL: AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES

Dear Candidates,

For the last sixty days the Orange Street News has been attempting to reach all of you — and has been failing miserably.

The OSN has sent countless emails, calling, messaging, and out of desperation, even tweeting to all of your campaign directors. Meanwhile, it is hard not to notice the you have been giving interview after interview to adult media, many of which has only a fraction of my readership.

(*NOTE – THE OSN HAS OVER A MILLION READERS)

Now, I am trying not to take this personally.

I don’t consider myself a victim. Never have. Never will. But it is becoming more and more difficult to not see that your decision to avoid me might have more to do with my age then the quality of work.

I hope I am wrong.

For the record, the OSN has more than five years of experience and has broken hundreds of exclusive stories, including exposing a drug ring, uncovering abuse at a local department, taking on a corrupt District Attorney, and even interviewing former First Lady Michelle Obama.

The OSN has no intentions of gimmicky kids interview. I would rather choke on my own spit than be used as someone’s prop. The OSN also doesn’t want to engage in gotcha interviews for page clicks. Anyone who has spent two minutes on my site knows that isn’t my style. The only thing the OSN wants is the opportunity to ask the important on behalf of my readers to get the information to the people. (FOR MY VIEW ON JOURNALISM ETHICS SEE VIDEO BELOW)

So, what do you say?

I may be young, but please judge me for my work, not my age, and who knows, by respecting my readers and giving them truthful answers you might even earn some new votes.

The ball is in your court. I can be reached anytime at hildelysiak@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Hilde Kate Lysiak

Ageism is bigotry. Both the ageism of older people toward younger people and the ageism of younger people toward older people. I hope that’s not what’s happening here. I hope that all remaining presidential candidates will speak to the Orange Street News.

Ageism may not be the only factor here. They may be passing you by because they consider you a local media outlet. (I know that you are not, but that may be their perception.) Perhaps you should look further down the ballot. I understand that there is going to be a hotly contested senate race this year. If the presidential candidates won’t talk to you, maybe some senate candidates will. Even getting interviews with congressional or state house candidates will be more informative for your readers that the over-hyped presidential candidates.
