Members of the Dauntless Hook and Ladder Fire Company have been accused of falsifying meeting minutes and making unauthorized purchases, sources have exclusively told the Orange Street News.

“It appears they were falsifying the minutes to cover for the fact they are required to have meetings,” the source told the OSN. “It appears they circumvented set procedures to buy things they personally felt the fire company needed.”

Four members of the DH&L  company were suspended “pending an investigation,” according to the source.

There is no indication the purchases made were for personal items, according to the source. However, Fire Station money can only be used to purchase certain things, according to state law. The OSN cannot confirm what was bought with the money.

The DH&L Fire Company is a 100% Volunteer Fire Company and has a great reputation in the community. Sources told the OSN that the problems are the result of “a few bad apples.”

When contacted, the Penn Township Supervisors claimed they didn’t have any information.

Borough Manager Paul Williams, when asked about the suspensions, told the Orange Street News that he wasn’t going to comment.

“It’s a personnel matter,” Williams told the OSN.

DH&L Fire Company Chief Brandon Ulrich told the OSN that the information should have never gone public. “This is a internal investigation that should never have been leaked out and will be handled accordingly.”

The next fire company meeting is set for February 13th, Monday, at 7pm.

I hope the OSN stays with this story, as Borough Manager Williams is clearly confused about his obligation to respond to media inquiries with open and transparent responses. That is public money being spent. Well done OSN staff for holding them accountable.

Other than withholding funds to Dauntless Hook & Ladder Co. the borough has no power over them, D.H.&L. Co. is not owned or operated by the borough.

As EMS Lieutenant of the DH&L Ambulance, I want the community to know that the EMS side is totally 100% separate from the Fire Company.

When the state is done auditing the fire company books I am sure they will take a peek at the EMS side too

Cleverly written. So things were purchased for the fire department, but parliamentary procedure wasn’t followed. Not that much of a story maybe?

Could be big story. Spending state or federal funds on things not allowed and then making up years of minutes to cover up is very illegal

Simple enough to take care of. Remove the bad apples perminately, and move on.

Where does this article state that money was spent on things not allowed or illegally?

The Dauntless Hook and Ladder Company has more than just a few bad apples. They weed out the people who don’t “drink the kool aid” to follow their somewhat questionable agenda. Glad there will hopefully be a legitimate investigation. This must be why one of the chiefs resigned from the department. The things that happen behind those closed doors that they hide need to be made public.

Amazing how members of the fire company, who haven’t been to meetings in years, show up to vote down the suspensions of these 4 people. Talk about stacking a meeting for your favor. There was no justice for the fire department or the citizens of Selinsgrove or Penn Twp.

These people totally ignored the evidence the fire company had against these members when they voted. They had proof of the fire company using their tax exempt status to purchase things for the race track. They are not tax exempt. They had proof that the members suspended were involved in using the fire companies fuel account, through the borough, to get fuel for the race track. The Borough and Fire Company are exempt from a lot of the fuel taxes that normal people pay. The race track is not.

No wonder their attorney that represented them at the meeting fought so hard to have this stopped. If you check, I think he is also the attorney for the Race track fair committee. Seems kinda odd to me. And some of the suspended people are on the fair committe. Doesn’t the plot thicken just a tad?

Now these members will retain their prominent positions of power within the fire company to bully everyone as they have for years. The General mambership, active members, that run calls, and don’t just come to vote at stacked meetings, are very disheartened. Hopefully these 4 will possibly be ready to handle an ever increasing workload when members tired of the “status quo”, run with other companies so as not having to deal with the corruption that is present at DH&L fire company.

Amazing how the Chief told you it should have never been leaked and was to be kept as an internal investigation. Wonder if he was one of the “4”?

There you go Hilde. you can see what corruption must be going on at the fire company. They are purchasing illegally the way it sounds and it needs to be investigated.

Corruption prevails at Dh&L Fire dept meeting. Seems the almighty race track is more important than fire protection. If you live in Penn Twp. Or Selinsgrove boro you might want to ask them why?

Sounds like the Attorney General’s Office should be involved. Wonder how much corruption would be uncovered.

Sounds like the Borough is providing fuel illegally for the race track.

Hilde, most of the meetings occur at a bar on south Market St. Things are decided there and then taken to the Fire Company meeting. Good luck getting a seat there.

If this were to happen where these people work, wouldn’t they be fired. I wonder what their employers would think if they knew how their employees represented them outside the work place.
