VANDALISM? CORRUPTION? HAVE NO WHERE ELSE TO TURN? NO STORY TOO BIG OR SMALL THE OSN WILL INVESTIGATE! Please email news tips to Hildelysiak@gmail.com
The Orange Street News received some exclusive news last last.
That Linda Tripp, whose recordings were used in the Clinton Impeachment, was on her death bed. A family member wrote that Tripp is “leaving this earth.” and asked people to “Please pray for a painless process for the strongest woman I will ever know in my entire lifetime”
A lot of people have been asking the OSN how I was able to get this information on a national story almost a full day before the rest of the media.
While the OSN will never reveal the identity of its sources, we can say that it came from a person connected to the Tripp family. We can also say that the source let me know they were going to go to other media shortly.
This put the OSN on the clock.
The OSN worked hard, confirmed the story, and published.
It was big news — even by this reporter’s standards, who has broken hundreds of exclusives.
Since she became a household name in the late 90’s, Tripp has changed her name and mostly stayed out of the limelight. She became a grandmother and made the decision to focus on her family.
When the next day came and I saw that Linda Tripp had become the number one trending story on Twitter — I immediately discovered that another publication had taken it as their own and billed it “Exclusive”.
I didn’t expect any credit and I also realized that I’m not the only reporter in the world with sources. But that was dishonest. It wasn’t true. I knew it wasn’t true because I had reported the story almost a full day earlier.
I don’t expect any special treatment because of my age. The OSN only asks that her age NOT be used against her.
But it happens all the time — and I think that this was just another case.
Yes. I am 13. I get that people think that it is weird. Like I am a circus freak.
But after over six years of reporting, and hundreds of important stories, the OSN believes she deserves to be treated with the same respect given to other reporters.
This isn’t a respect I am asking for.
This is a respect I am demanding.
Because it is a respect I deserve not based on my gender or age — but because of my work.
