Democrat Senator Bob Casey told the Orange Street News he will be attending today’s swearing in of Donald Trump.
“I will be attending the inauguration as I have since becoming a Senator, serving as a witness of one of our country’s most valued traditions, the peaceful transition of power,” he told the OSN
A lot of Democrats from Pennsylvania are not going. U.S. Reps. Bob Brady, 1st District; Dwight Evans, 2nd District; Brendan Boyle, 13th District; and Mike Doyle, 14th District – are with at least 60 House Democrats who plan to boycott the event for different reasons.
But Casey told the OSN that while he made the decision to go, he is not judging the people who choose not to attend.
“It is the right of any member of Congress to choose not to attend. But although I fought hard for a different outcome to the election, I must now focus on working in Congress to fight for policies that raise incomes for Pennsylvanians and holding the Trump Administration accountable,” he told the OSN in an email.
In response to the election, Selinsgrove will host a “woman’s march” on Saturday in front of the Post Office, according to an advertisement on the Action Network website.
Donald Trump has said he believes all representatives should attend. He says the swearing in isn’t about him, but about respecting the office and the country.
Republican Donald Trump beat Democrat Hillary Clinton in Snyder County with 11,710 votes to Hillary Clinton’s 3,991. Libertarian Gary Johnson received 451 Votes.
“Turd Sandwhich” also received one write in vote!
